Application & Placement Procedure
You should apply at least 3 months before you wish to depart for America.
STEP 1: REQUEST A BROCHURE AND APPLICATION FORMS
Please click here to request a brochure and application forms. We will post them to you through our local partner in your country.
STEP 2: CONTACT OUR LOCAL PARTNER FOR AN INTERVIEW
Complete your application form as described in the brochure and call our local partner in your country for an interview. You can find a list of our international partners in the brochure.
STEP 3. IAPO LONDON UK RECEIVES YOUR APPLICATION
If your interview is successful, our local partner sends your complete application with their interview report to Agent Au Pair, London UK. Your application is reviewed in London and if it is approved, we send your application to our US office.
STEP 4. FAMILIES CALL YOU
Screened and approved host families gain access to au pair applications and home phone numbers to interview applicants by telephone. Typically, qualified applicants are placed within three months, however, we can not guarantee placement. If you
can only wait a month, please don't apply.
STEP 5. THE MATCH IS MADE
If you accept a match, you will be asked to pay a refundable $300.00 program security deposit and $200 placement fee. Then you are mailed a complete host family application, DS-2019 form, insurance information, training itinerary, community profile and au pair manual.
STEP 6. VISA APPLICATION
You must schedule a visa interview with the nearest US Embassy for a J-1 non-immigrant visa. The US Embassy decides whether your J-1 visa is issued or not. Depending on the Embassy, applicants are notified immediately or take up to three weeks to inform applicants of the decision. If your visa is denied, $300.00 program security deposit and $200 placement fee will be refunded to you.
STEP 7. TIME FOR DEPARTURE AND TRAINING
If your J-1 visa is approved, you will fly to the USA to participate in an intensive 32 hour training
course on infant/child safety, development and American Red Cross CPR certification. Transportation from the airport is provided. Lodging and most meals are provided during this time.
STEP 8. YOU MEET THE FAMILY
Once the training is complete, transportation to the new host family home is provided and an exciting year begins! Local Community Representatives will assist the au pair all year.
